Motorola Bought 280 North, A Web Apps Company

Andy Rubin (Google) and Dr. Sanjay K. Jha (Motorola) join Om Malik on stage at Mobilize 2009 in San Francisco.

Motorola is buying 280 North, a tiny software and web applications start-up started by ex-Apple employees, for $20 million. The company makes a web application framework called Cappuccino that allows anyone to build desktop-quality applications for the web. A good example is their 280 Slides offering, which allows users to create and view presentations on the web.

The acquisition is a pointer toward Motorola’s future plans, when its handset business (along with some other hardware product lines) is spun off into an independent company, Motorola Mobility. It is also Motorola’s attempt to capture the Apple magic.

The 2010 Emmy Winners!

I'm still surprised by some of the unexpected winners. The voters gave much significance to several new shows, with Modern Family winning the big award for outstanding comedy series (and a win for Eric Stonestreet!). Repeat honorees also shone back, with the cast of Mad Men and Bryan Cranston both taking the stage for a third time.

A  fun musical number was given by Jimmy Fallon and the night had several laugh-out-loud moments  including George Clooney's Modern Family video cameo was a fave.

Two Moons Tonight, August 2010

Two moons appearing at the same time happens only once every 1,000 years and isn’t scheduled to reappear until 2287. The second moon will actually be the planet Mars in our Solar System and on the rare occasion it appears that we have two moons at the same time. This is according to an email rumor circulating since 2003 claims August 27 will bring 'the closest encounter between Mars and Earth in recorded history.

NASA has reported that there is no such thing as two moons showing in the skies over the world. And that this rumor started in 2003 and has since reoccurred at the end of August every year since.

President Noynoy Aquino's Statement Regarding the Manila Hostage Crisis

The past May election resulted to President Benigno Aquino being elected as the President of the Philippine Republic. Looking forward to advance and bolster the economy by doubling tourist arrivals and reducing corruption, this was the goal of the administration. But the recent August 23 Manila Hostage crisis proves it wrong somehow. The benchmark stock index yesterday fell the most in 11 weeks and the peso had its biggest drop since June 7.

Moreover, in a recently held press conference, President Noynoy Aquino decided to break the silence and offer sympathy to those people included and involved in the said crisis. Here is President Noynoy Aquino’s official statement regarding the hostage crisis that happened last August 23, 2010 at the Quirino Grandstand:

Picture Taking: Policemen After Hostage Crisis, Re-training To Follow

I recently came across this photo spread over the Internet which was shared just minutes ago by my friend in Plurk. You can see here these 'gentle' men smiling and posing right near the bus which was hi-jacked. But let me take you to the whole subject of this article. In an interview with the Philippine Inquirer, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo admitted that mistakes had been made.

Philippine police have admitted they did not have the skills, equipment or training to handle Monday's bus siege, in which eight Hong Kong tourists were killed after being taken hostage. The force said talks with the gunman had been handled poorly, and relations with the media had broken down. Security experts, survivors and Chinese officials have all criticised the Philippine authorities.

They even had an article on their website that the Philippines didn’t need the deadliest attack on foreign tourists to expose the flaws in its security forces.

Venus Raj's "Major Major", The Hottest 'Major' Trend Online and Offline

Yesterday, I woke up finding all those tweets that the Miss Universe pageant is commencing. I decided to browse online for some streaming sites that I would be able to watch the said pageant. I was looking forward to the question and answer portion, making this is the last hurdle to the beauties ambition for the crown. in Statement in Miss Universe 2010 Q&A Portion, Venus Raj answer of The Philippines' “major, major” answer during the interview portion in the Miss Universe 2010 pageant in Las Vegas is the fact that her top-five finish was the country’s first since 1999 when Miriam Quiambao placed second. To think that this young woman from Bato, Camarines Sur, was dethroned briefly, and the Philippines almost lost the chance to be represented by the determined candidate.  Traditional beauty contest powerhouses Venezuela and USA were shut out as early as the semifinals for the first time in many years. Raj was also the only Asian candidate to make it to the top 15 this year.

Present and occuring on Facebook and Twitter, comments and tweets by Filipino's  stressed that Raj’s fourth runner-up showing was a welcome, if temporary, diversion from Monday’s grim hostage-taking incident in Manila and its aftermath. Malacañang said on a statement that Venus' success is a bright spot in an otherwise sad day for the country. For hundreds of Filipinos who came from all over the world to cheer the Bicolana bet, waving Philippine flags expressing support for her evoked priceless camaraderie and patriotism.

This time, Venus Raj gave the Philippines two major major reasons to smile about and be proud of. It all happened during the pageant's Top 5 Q & A portion.

Julian Assange of WikiLeaks Accused of Rape

Julian Assange, the editor in chief of whistleblower Web site WikiLeaks, has been accused of committing rape in Sweden, a charge that the former computer hacker believes is the handiwork of powerful people or organizations that want to silence him.

A colleague of Assange, Kristinn Hrafnsson, said the 39-year-old Internet activist was in Sweden and would promptly go to police to face the accusations and clear his name. Hrafnsson said the charge against Assange may be part of a bigger plan to destroy the credibility of WikiLeaks. “There are powerful organizations who want to do harm to WikiLeaks,” she said.

Dr. Laura's N-word Rant, Inexcusable?

Excerpt from:
Sunday, August 22nd 2010, 4:00 AM
Errol Louis
is a columnist for the New York Daily News and is also on the editorial board, and also hosts a radio program.

Dr. Laura Schlesinger, spewing the N-word and berating a black woman who called to talk about her interracial marriage, joins comedian Michael Richards, broadcasters like Don Imus and the late Jimmy (the Greek) Snyder as nationally known figures who blurted out racially offensive words before a nation - and key corporate sponsors - who proved unwilling to dismiss the epithets as harmless joking.

Schlesinger's plea - that she should be able to use the N-word the way some black comedians do - is both tiresome and badly out of date.

What Schlesinger wasn't aware of was the Constitution, as evidenced by her statement on CNN that she will be ending her radio show in order to reclaim her First Amendment rights. Ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin echoed the sentiment, lamenting Schelsinger's supposed loss of rights.

And he acts like –
SCHLESSINGER: Well, can you give me an example of a racist comment? ‘Cause sometimes people are hypersensitive. So tell me what’s — give me two good examples of racist comments.

Bilderberg Films To Reveal Truth About Politics and Obama

Truth behind the deceptions; one is about the Bilderberg Group’s monopoly on world politics, economics, and culture; the other is about the supposedly “true” background of President Barack Obama will be revealed in the recently released two films about the Bilderberg group.

Endgame, which is the first film's title made by Alex Jones, Jones exposes the 2006 Bilderberg meeting in Ottawa, Canada to the public; notable for the fact of the ordinarily low-profile of these meetings.  In the second film, called The Obama Deception, Jones tries to disregard the image of President Obama as a homegrown man of the people and leads us to another perception of him as a puppet for the Bilderbergs who was chosen for office by Bilderberg luminaries.

"An assertion of Islamist triumphalism", a few words that came out of Former Speaker Newt Gingrich tagging the said project. Obama further stated that the United States welcomes people of all faith to live in the country and the law treats all religious groups as equal. Furthermore, he said, that the project must have the "GO" signal of the concerned authorities just like any other project of any religious community in the USA.

2NE1 Comeback This September To Promote 3 Tracks Simultaneously

An extraordinary and remarkable statement by YG Founder Yang Hyun Suk revealed their plan will be promoting not one, not two, but three tracks simultaneously at one given period of time for the female hip-hop quartet 2NE1 !

Decision like this is so bizarre in the K-pop industry (or perhaps any other music industries out there), since most artists tend to promote only one, two at max, song at a time. Also, it has been feared that triple promotion is quite risky and adventurous as well having such a large amount of money at stake.

New Comedy Show 'Big Lake' Tries to Be Extraordinary But Failed

Shows just come and go, but there are those shows who would really last for quite lengthy years. But there are those would would really fall short out of what has been expected.

Here comes 'Big Lake', Comedy Central's first attempt at a multi-camera, live-audience sitcom falls short for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, it's just not funny. The two episodes that CC sent for review, which air back-to-back tonight at 10PM ET, barely poured out some laughs from most audiences as what most reviews in the net right now are saying. It also fails in trying to establish an edgier form of the traditional sitcom as what one writer from TVSquad says. Moreover, accdg to Joel Keller, TVSquad's known writer, "the show fails to mine its subject matter for deeper satire about the recession, going home after a fall from grace, and the fallacy of trusting people who say they can make you rich."
