Rivermaya & Gibo Teodoro, Together In A Historical Collaboration

Rivermaya has just released a brand new song which is not part of their new album Closest Thing To Heaven. It is the product of a very interesting collaboration between the band and Presidential Candidate Gibo Teodoro.

In the year 2000, Rivermaya made history by literally giving away a whole album for FREE (Rivermaya’s “Free” album). Ten years later, the band does it again with the release of a brand new song which is also going to be given away for FREE. The song is entitled “Lipad” and it is part of a bonus CD that students with valid IDs can claim upon purchase of the new album “Closest Thing To Heaven”. An alternate version of “Lipad” that was used in the newest music video/TV ad of Presidential Candidate Gibo Teodoro, quickly became a favorite among the youth and supporters of OPM.

When asked about why Rivermaya has chosen to support Gibo Teodoro, Rivermaya’s drummer and “Lipad” composer Mark Escueta relates:

“When I first heard Gibo’s Radio Ad, I was blown away by this line “Sa pananaw ko, matagal na nating gustong lumipad”. Tama siya eh. Hindi lumpo ang taong bayan. Nanggigigil tayong lahat kasi magagaling tayo pero ang daming humahadlang. We just need the right person in the cockpit and Rivermaya believes that Gibo is THE one. Gibo’s words of wisdom have given birth to a new song from Rivermaya, and this song is for everybody, especially the graduating students of 2010. We would like to thank Gibo Teodoro and his team for having faith in Rivermaya and it’s great that we share the same vision with regards to the youth and the future of our country. This is such an important time for all of us and our song is the just the beginning of our contribution. We were not paid to endorse Gibo and we do not expect any payment. We voluntarily support him not only as members of Rivermaya but as responsible citizens. We would like to encourage everyone to set aside some time to really get to know ALL candidates. We’re confident that they will discover and appreciate the same principles, characteristics and ideals that convinced us that Gibo should be our next President. It’s hard to see and hear through all the political warfare that’s going on so we must be extra careful, discerning and we must decide from within. Right alongside “Lipad”, another single from the album “Closest Thing To Heaven” has also been released and is one of the most requested songs on radio today. The song is entitled “Ambotsa”, short for the Bisaya phrase “Ambot sa imo” and this is the first time Rivermaya has written a song with english, tagalog & bisaya lyrics. The music video for “Ambotsa” is also set to be released very soon.
